Can you play an instrument? Have you taught yourself?

I want to learn how to play the bass guitar but only have an accoustic guitar at home. Does it make sense to learn how to play that first?

I might be wrong but I think one of the problems of the bass guitar is that it's not very satisfying to learn on your own and is much better with other musicians present. It would help if they were at the same level as you and you could learn together. That might be hard to find, unless you can persuade friends to learn or find patient musicians.

@GlassDog I can see that.. thank you!

@Eir089 Don't let it put you off trying, by the way. I am self-taught and it's a huge joy to be able to play. I just went with different instruments.

Yes, several, though some I haven't played in decades. Currently I stick to classical guitar yet have and infrequently play twelve string and electric guitars.

Had formal training in both clarinet (3 years), and classical guitar. Yet after a year of classical guitar I stopped lessons and never bothered with more lessons. Learned piano on my own, yet can't say I'm particularly good on it. Haven't played on piano in over 20 years though.

You can learn slap/pop techniques on a guitar that translates over but it's more getting used to the thicker strings that'll be the part that's new.

@Ryannnnnn Oh and yeah to answer the question I play acoustic and i'm self taught since I was 15-16. If you want inspiration for acoustic check out Tommy Emannuel and Antoine Dufour.

I'm not a guitar player... But skills are transferable... It's got to help!
Bass guitar... 🤔🤔🤔 You wanna be Ted Mosby's wife? 😃

I play guitar, bass, duduk and keyboard. Self taught.

Drums. Self taught, mostly on guitar and piano, though these days I do a lot of backup harmonies. I have a pretty big range including a falsetto, but my voice overall lacks that "lead singer" richness.
