In Bob Dylan's song Ballad of a Thin Man, who exactly IS Mr. Jones?

I always imagined him to be a caricature of a journalist that was trying to pry out of Dylan "an answer", a gratifying soundbite out of the aloof Dylan that would satisfy the era., and this song is sort of in response to that.

Any thoughts?

I always thought it was John Doe, Joe Six-Pack, the bourgeoisie, as opposed to Dylan's hip, aware, bohemian lifestyle.
