He’s off life support so the chances are slim but he is still alive for the time being. CBS said they reported it incorrectly

It seems to be a sort of grey area; he got reported dead, but the I heard that he's just in hospital, so who knows at this point.

His manager confirmed his death last night (though his actual time of death was several hours later than it was initially reported). RIP Tom Petty.
