The semantic definition of the word "Cult" is describing the way all religions operate. Organize religion was brought about largely during a time when most people on earth were illiterate therefore someone who could read would dictate the writings to the people.
What I don't understand now is the fact that we can read and teach ourselves everything that anyone else could have read in the books and decide what we want to believe, we can do our own research. Perhaps it's just easier to listen to someone who sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Trust and morality have much farther reaching implications for people who have a large following, therefore I believe responsibility and discretion are key.
On that note, I actually don't mind this new pope he walks the talk.

Yes he appears to, but don't forget that the church is in damage control,he might not have been elected had what the church wanted kept hidden not finally come to light, we are having a Royal Commission ( well overdue) at the moment about child abuse by the church and other institutions which has lasted for decades unpunished, lots of people are disillusioned and are forsaking the catholic faith.And the last pope was not what one would call "a man of the people".
