USA nd turkey

will they have a showdown in syria?

The battle lines are already drawn, and the players, in addition to the US and Turkey, include Iran and Russia.

We've already drawn a line in the sand. We have US special ops, and support personnel, wearing DFS, or DSF (depending on the translation source) insignia, and inside the DFS zone of operations.

Turkey launched an operation against the DFS, but is not targeting the part of the zone, where the "embedded" US troops are. They warned the US that US troops may be hit accidentally. The US made it clear that Turkey will pay dearly if that happens.

It's not about ISIS (ISIL), it's about the US affirming its control over the region. A mistake, because we already know that it will lead to no good (to put it mildly).

We, and the Russians, have been doing things through proxies for now.

We supplied ManPAD to Islamic Syrian fighters, and gave them the green light to shoot down a Russian Mig-25. The message to Russia, is that we're in there, so they can't assume control over Syria. It looks like we did not learn from our mistakes in Afghanistan, where the anti aircraft weapons we supplied to the Islamists, ended up becoming terrorist weapons. This is a colossal f'up.

The Russians evened out the score, when they gave Assad the green light to shoot down an Israeli F-16, equipped with the latest and greatest evasion technologies, to show us that they're not going to roll over and play dead.

I think we need to get the hell out of there, ASAP. There are no positive exit scenarios.
