Coast Guard Divers?

So I've decided that I am going to enlist really soon and trying to decide on which branch I should enlist in and become a diver in. Right now the navy is on top due to being in the ocean and being able to learn a trade in if I ever decided to leave and not go back to college, however I'm also interested in the coast guard's divers since you don't seem to be away from home as long as the navy and because I feel like it'd better suit my lifestyle. My question though is are you able to go straight to diver training out of bootcamp? Like with the navy I can get in my contract to go to diver training school after boot camp, can I do the same with the coast guard? If not can someone explain to me how long it'd take before I had the opportunity to become a diver in the coast guard? (PS I am going to start talking to recruiters as soon as this semester is over to get more info but am trying to gather as much info before then)

Talk to the recruiters to get better answers. A couple of things to keep in my just because you go to dive school doesn't necessarily mean you will get through the training so definitely have a back up plan for what you would like to do. My cousin is a Navy diver and only half of the people they started with completed the training. As far as being out on the ship, the Coast Guard does go out more than most realize. They will even deploy to the Persian gulf. A few times they were our escort when we pulled into Dubai.

Just so you know I'm not talking out my ass, I'm retired Navy

@Scubaguy027 no I realize that the coast guard deploys. I know that they go out a good bit as well but from what I've seen is that they aren't out as long as the navy is. I do realize that the navy diver training is hard and am going to be training very hard before I even go to boot camp. I'm also a certified diver and am extremely comfortable in the water.

@Daniel1120 I'll try and find a link for you of some recommended ways to train. Keep in mind since you are a diver you will be catching a lot of shit from the instructors. There are recreational divers, commercial divers and military divers. Either way good luck

@GreensCornbreadYams well if I can't get guaranteed a spot in their diver school then I won't be going with the coast guard. Do you have any info on that?
