I suck at writing, but here goes.

President Kennedy's televised address, October 30, 1962

"My fellow Americans. Only a week ago this government addressed you about the ongoing crisis in Cuba. Since then sinister events have unfolded and we stand now on the brink of annihilation. On October 27th, the Soviet Union launched a nuclear weapon off the coast of Cuba. Although the Soviets have denied this act of aggression, it is impossible for the United States of America to stand idly by. With our nation in such imminent peril, we have made clear to both Cuba and the Soviet Union that United States will not allow them to threaten us. As of this morning, we are at war with Cuba and the Soviet Union. We will not subject our people to retaliation in kind. As such, we have no intention to launch a nuclear strike against the Soviet Union, although will not hesitate to respond if such a strike is launched upon us. Regardless, we will win this war in Europe and the Pacific as we did the last one."
