Familiar Aliens, An XCOM Story, Spoilerific Notes 1

So I've decided to do the XCOM short story series I was considering prior and I decided I will do a month of game time, take notes of what happens and then use that month of game time to make a series of stories before playing another month and repeating the process. For those who may be interested to see things behind the scenes and get some information on what's going on before the full stories are written I figured I would post the notes for any to read who feel the need. Some of the notes are quite barebones while other contain details meant for me to later expand upon while writing the stories. Overall the stories should have a horror/conspiracy tone with moments of dark comedy mixed amongst them. Any feedback is of course always appreciated. Boy was that first month eventful, though.

Actions

XCOM founded as a UN-backed clandestine extragovernmental organization on the 30th of December, 1996, and is housed in a small complex in the newly expanded Groom Lake military base also known as Area 51.
Gregory Phoenix is transferred to XCOM as the small agency's handler and both Slovakia and Hungary provide (questionable) experienced investigative agents who showed interest in the paranormal as a show of support.
Gregory Phoenix immediately begins looking for additional agents to recruit, requesting transfers of suitable agents from all participating nations.
A small cache of police munitions are provided to XCOM to aid their efforts, though are denied requests for military grade equipment because 'the degree of threat is still uncertain.'

A UFO is sighted flying over Alaska on December 30th, 1996. Agents Mojmir and Gyozo are readied to leave when the report of crop circles sighted in Brazil comes in. With no landings reported from Alaska, or indeed the rest of the continental US as the UFO flew over, the Agents are diverted to Brazil to collect witness testimonies.

In the evening of the 31st of December, 1996, Agents Mojmir and Gyozo arrive at the site of the crop circle sighting. Both armed with stun batons and handguns.
Witness out in the field when Mojmir and Gyozo approached. Sections of the field he is in are burnt.
Witness flees into the field upon seeing the agents, who immediately pursue.
Gyozo catches up to the witness, who immediately swings a punch at him.
Gyozo dodges the punch and immediately takes the witness down with his baton.
As Gyozo loads the witness into the vehicle to retrieve him and send him back to XCOM HQ for proper interview and observation Mojmir collects a couple samples of a strange radioactive substance found around the crop circle and in the burnt sections of the field.
Upon awakening on the trip back to Groom Lake the witness rants about what sounds to be some kind of abduction experience.
Gyozo Mecs is promoted to Senior Agent as a result of his successful retrieval.

On January 1st 1997 the first influx of UN funds is received. Brazil provides additional funding beyond its initial UN commitment in thanks for the handling of the crop circle report.
Late that evening Gyozo and Mojmir return with the abducted farmer. The farmer is immediately set to be interviewed by FBI trained interrogators.

On January 2nd 1997 a cattle mutilation is reported just outside Hong Kong. Gyozo and Mojmir are dispatched to investigate the report immediately.
New recruits arrive at XCOM HQ from Japan, DRC, Greece and Italy.
Construction is begun on a new hangar and assignment staging area to add to the two already present as well as an additional storage area in preparation for storage of item retrievals.
Organized military training of all agents in XCOM begins, aided by special operations personnel stationed elsewhere in Groom Lake.

On the 3rd of January, 1997, Mojmir and Gyozo arrived at the site of the Cattle Mutilation sighting. Both equipped with handguns and stun batons.
Witness not immediately present on arrival, Gyozo and Mojmir split up to scan the farm quickly and locate him.
Mojmir goes to investigate the barn and fields, Gyozo to investigate the farmhouse.
Gyozo locates the witness in an outbuilding, holding a shotgun and looking nervous.
Gyozo approaches the witness from behind, upon speaking he is attacked by the witness and a struggle ensues. The witness rifle-butts Gyozo in the face and Gyozo manages to hit him with his baton before he struggles away and brings his shotgun to bear. Gyozo immediately rushes the witness and knocks him unconscious before he can fire.
Mojmir arrives only to find Gyozo already has the witness in custody. No radioactive material or anomalous items are found near the mutilated cattle on the farm. The witness' shotgun is taken by Gyozo with particular relish.
Gyozo is diagnosed with a concussion at a local hospital, is ordered to go on medical leave in China until he has recovered and then immediately return to XCOM HQ when capable. Mojmir begins return journey with witness in tow.

On the 4th of January 1997 Mojmir returns from China with the new witness, who immediately professes to abduction. The abducted farmer is placed in a holding cell but put on low priority as the interrogation of the other abducted farmer, who had anomalous materials present on his farm, is still ongoing.

On the 5th of January, 1997, reports come in from Greenland of several tourists having gone missing and sightings of strange animals. Agents Saburo and Narkis are dispatched to investigate the reports. Saburo is armed with a handgun and stun baton, Narkis is armed with a police issued pump action shotgun.

On the morning of the 6th of January, 1997, Agents Saburo and Narkis arrive. informed by the local police of an area where there have been 'yeti' sightings. Saburo thinks it's a joke and wild goose chase, Narkis takes it a bit more seriously and keeps his shotgun at the ready.
Upon leaving the car they find they're immediately surrounded by hulking white shapes in the snow, vaguely ape-like features, screams in the distance.
Both open fire on the closest Yeti, it does not immediately fall despite both hitting it multiple times. The Yeti shambles away, obviously badly wounded.
Narkis fires two more times, the second shot striking the Yeti in the chest and it falls.
Saburo turns and fires at a pair of Yetis approaching from his side of the car, advancing toward them as he does. He hits one of them twice, it does not fall.
One of the two flees, while the wounded one approaches slowly.
Narkis runs to aid Saburo and fires two shots from his shotgun at the wounded Yeti, the second hits. Saburo fires twice and the second strikes the Yeti in the chest and it folds onto the ground in a lump, still breathing but not otherwise moving.
Another Yeti crests a hill and Narkis fires his last loaded shell at it, hitting it, before moving over to Saburo for cover while he reloads. Saburo fires all of his remaining shots at the Yeti, hitting it twice, but it still does not fall and he quickly tries to reload.
The badly wounded yeti tries to flee, but there is more movement nearby and both move toward it to root out the source, both now well and truly on edge and looking out for more of the monstrous creatures.
Another Yeti approaches over a hill and both open fire, again the Yeti fails to immediately fall. It charges close to Saburo but he quickly fires several shots into it and the Yeti falls just a couple steps away.
Narkis turned to fire at another approaching Yeti, hitting it both times he fires. Saburo turns after the charging Yeti falls and also opens fire, hitting it two more times.
A Yeti comes out from behind a tree and swings at Narkis, who ducks the swing and rolls away before blasting it twice at point blank in the chest that sends it to the ground in a bloody mess.
Saburo empties the remnants of his magazine into the Yeti in front of him and loads another, firing two more times before it closes the distance and swings at him, then passing him up to go for Narkis who backs away and blasts it with his shotgun directly in the head, taking it down in a spray of gore.
The screams in the distance have gone silent.
Another Yeti approaches from behind some rocks, Saburo opens fire and hits it several times but it still stands. Narkis runs over to aid him and fires his shotgun, striking the Yeti full in the face and it falls to the ground pouring blood and not moving.
Another Yeti is barely visible over a hilltop. Narkis and Saburo decide to pursue after some small deliberation, deciding they should put an end to these things if they can before more people die.
Saburo fires at the Yeti, striking it twice and it tries to slink away behind the hill. Both agents immediately pursue. Narkis fires twice at it, missing both times. Saburo fires several more times, striking thrice more.
The Yeti charges Saburo, who deftly dodges the Yeti's massive claws and takes the creature down with a hard crack of his baton, his pistol out of ammo. The creature remains motionless and pouring blood into a massive pool. He then reloads his gun with his last magazine.
Both head over the hill to check if there are more of them, they sight one and begin to pursue. The Yeti appears to attempt to flee. Both fire at the Yeti but only miss. The Yeti attempts to flee, but is trapped against a cliff.
Both fire again at the Yeti and wing it, the Yeti turns and charges. Narkis shoots it twice in the chest, but the Yeti carries on despite horrific injury. Saburo runs alongside his compatriot and follows up with a single shot that strikes the Yeti right between the eyes, dropping it. He spots another Yeti and immediately moves to engage it.
As Saburo crests the hill he spots a second Yeti behind the first, he opens fire on the first but misses all four shots. Narkis moves to come over the top of the hill. The Yetis flee.
Saburo fires three more shots, all miss. Narkis moves up ahead as the Yeti charges and swings at him. Narkis attempts to dodge but is slashed by its claws, superficially wounded.
Narkis scrambles away and rapidly empties three shotgun shells into it, dropping the Yeti and calling out he only has five shells left. Saburo points out another Yeti, firing his last few shots which all miss then calling out he's empty.
Narkis moves to assist Saburo and fires twice at the Yeti, hitting it twice but it does not fall.
Narkis swears as Saburo moves in to take it down with the stun baton, following up with his shotgun aimed squarely at the Yeti. However, unexpectedly, just as they prepared to deliver the killing blow the creature visibly surrendered and gave up fighting, allowing Saburo to bind it.
The two collect the corpses and live Yeti to return it to XCOM HQ.

Just after midnight on January 7th 1997 Agents Saburo and Narkis return from their mission. Both receive pay raises as a reward for their incredible, though perhaps overzealous, retrieval. Narkis is given a week off for his lacerations to heal before returning to training.

On the 8th of January, 1997, reports come in of strange animals and missing tourists this time from Brazil. Agents Mojmir and Saburo are dispatched to investigate and retrieve any possible specimens. Saburo is equipped with a handgun and stun baton, Mojmir with a pump action shotgun.
A UFO lands on the western border of Arizona, Agents Brunelle and Alessia are dispatched to investigate. Both are armed with handguns and stun batons. They arrive on the scene just before the sun rises. Both are equipped with handguns and stun batons.

When Brunelle and Alessia arrive the UFO is cross shaped and dark, parked in a small depression.
As they approach the UFO a bright orb of energy arcs over a sand dune toward them, striking the side of the UFO.
A rain of fire comes down from the surrounding hills as they move toward the source of the shot, Brunelle is shot by a ball of plasma and bursts into flame before falling to the ground silently. Alessia turns to flee.
Bolts of plasma fly over her shoulders as she runs back to the car, hurriedly climbing in and fleeing the scene. As she flees she sees the UFO take off into the sky behind her, flying northward. Radar tracks it moving at astonishing speed over the Northern US and then Canada before it disappears from tracking.
Upon Alessia returns Gregory begins looking for a replacement for Brunelle.

On the 9th of January, 1997, the interrogation of the abducted farmer is declared complete. The investigators come to the conclusion this person was somehow being used as a data storage device for some kind of alien intelligence. The interrogators believe that a trained linguistic expert could possibly learn considerable amounts about alien language through further study.
A group of military scientists are brought on to study the captured Yeti and try to extract information from it.

Agents Mojmir and Saburo arrive at the site of reports of a giant scorpion near some houses. They park and get out of their vehicle to investigate but Saburo finds himself caught amongst thick vines as Mojmir sees the scorpion, half the size of a man, in the distance and moves to pursue it. He fires a handful of shots at it but all miss. The scorpion crawls up over the hill and presents an easy shot which Mojmir succeeds, killing the massive creature.

On the 11th of January 1997 an agent arrives, transferred from Russia.

On January 15th, 1997, reports come in of activity of a cult known as 'The Esoteric Order of Dagon' in Lusaka, Zambia. Mojmir and Saburo are dispatched once again to collect the leader of this cult for interrogation. Same equipment as prior assignment.
A UFO lands in Eastern Nevada, then flies north over Canada.

On January 16th, 1997, reports come in of a cult known as the Red Dawn in Novosibirsk, Russia. Agents Gyozo and Artur are sent to collect the leader of this cult.
Reports of a cult known as the Black Lotus operating in Urumqi, China, come to light. But XCOM HQ is already stretched too thin to justify another international assignment before one of the currently afield teams return.

On January 17th 1997 Agents Mojmir and Saburo arrive in Lusaka. The cult compound is in an industrial sector that is eerily silent as they arrive.
As they approach an alleyway a loud snap rings out, a bolt striking the ground by Mojmir's foot. The source of the gunshot sounds to be on the second floor.
The agents circle the building to attempt to go in the back, they see the cult leader attempting to flee with a crossbow in hand. Mojmir sprints after him and takes him down with his stun baton.

On January 18th 1997 Agents Gyozo and Artur arrive in Novosibirsk. This cult complex is located in a run down neighborhood which is also eerily silent as the agents arrive.
As the agents head down the street into the neighborhood they see movement in the second story of one of the buildings.
As the agents enter the building they find a crazed looking man with a knife waiting. Gyozo rushes him and takes him down with a stun baton before he can react.

On the 18th of January, 1997, a massive UFO is spotted flying over the eastern seaboard then landing in Central America. After the incident with Brunelle and Alessia it is decided not to try intercepting it until better manpower and equipment can be brought to bear.

On the 19th of January 1997 both teams afield return from their missions.

On the 20th of January 1997 the scientists conclude that the 'Yeti' is in fact a Mongorn, a creature of Mongolian legend, and that it is a highly intelligent albeit incredibly hostile creature with an inborn hatred of humans. Study of its genetic makeup seems to imply it is likely of artificial origin.
Once the Mongorn study is complete the FBI interrogators are called in to tend to to the interrogation of the Order of Dagon member.

On the 22nd of January 1997 just after midnight the interrogation of the Order of Dagon member concludes. The interrogators all come to the same conclusion that he appears to be a relatively low ranking member of a much larger secret organization. The cultist tells of human sacrificial rituals to gain favor from an ancient sea deity but otherwise appears to be a normal human being. The interrogators dismiss the supernatural elements as likely a smokescreen but Gregory Phoenix is unwilling to dismiss it. Gregory marks down 'investigate Order of Dagon network' on his notes.
After the conclusion of the Dagon member, they begin interrogation of the Red Dawn cultist.
That afternoon reports come in of crop circles in central Oregon. Agents Saburo and Artur are dispatched to investigate the reports and retrieve any witnesses for questioning. After the repeated instances of violent resistance to retrieval they request a shotgun from XCOM HQ. Agent Saburo is given a shotgun, Artur is given a handgun and stun baton. They arrive on the scene late that evening.

The farm is quiet when they arrive, the witness not immediately visible when they arrive. They split up with Artur going to investigate the barn while Saburo crosses an orchard to check out the farmhouse.
While investigating the first of the outbuildings Artur is jumped from behind by the witness, trying to strangle him. He struggles free and turns, knocking the witness unconscious with two strong swings of his baton that struck either side of his head.
Agent Saburo collects several samples of radioactive material from the fields around the crop circles.
The agents arrive back at XCOM HQ just before midnight.

On the 24th of January 1997 the interrogation of the Red Dawn cultist concludes. The interrogators seem in disagreement over whether to call the organization the person belongs to a cult or a gang, as it seems to be an amalgam of both, but no matter the case all are in agreement that he appears to be a relatively low ranking member. One of the interrogators informs Gregory that they used a primed grenade placed in the cultist's mouth to get him to open up, though he ultimatley didn't know much of direct use he insists the technique is a good one. Gregory isn't sure he agrees but admits he can't argue with results, marking down 'investigate Red Dawn network' in his notes. One of the interrogators also mentions there appears to be something 'off' about the physiology of the cultist and recommends execution and dissection. Gregory is uncertain, but Alessia presses him on it and convinces him to give the okay for it. He marks it down, but has the cultist held in a cell until the resources for the procedure are available.
Gregory begins filing the paperwork for scaling up XCOM operations in response to the plethora of findings, as well as for better personal protection for agents.

On the 27th of January 1997 the hangar and operations staging construction is completed. In preparation for upscaling XCOM Gregory begins looking for new recruits.
A pharmaceutical company asks for access to the cache of Mongorn corpses for $65,000, Gregory gives them the okay but reserves a pair of corpses for future study when resources are available.
Around midnight that night reports come in of unusual technology used by organized criminals in Inuvik.
And the little bit that wouldn't fit because of character limits.
Agents Narkis and Alessia are dispatched to collect any gang members they can find. Narkis is armed with a shotgun, Alessia with a handgun and stun baton.

On the 28th of January Agents Narkis and Alessia arrive in Inuvik and are directed to an apartment complex run by the gang. Upon arrival at the complex they see the gang member is currently cutting down plants in the central courtyard, they both move to walk around the fence and take the gang member into custody but upon him seeing them he hefts his axe and rushes toward them.
Narkis levels his shotgun but Alessia manages to take him down with her stun baton without issue.
They arrive back at XCOM HQ late that evening.

On the 29th of January XCOM gets clearance to have up to four active agents on any individual assignment in any country in the world. They are not immediately cleared for any equipment upgrades, but Gregory continues pressing for them.

On the 1st of February XCOM receives its second UN finance sum. The UK, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, Australia, Nigeria and Egypt decide to increase their funding in light of the many findings. The US, however, reduces funding over displeasure at not handling the UFO flyovers in spite of a lack of resources provided to XCOM. The overall net change in funding, however, remains positive.
