Why are some friends assholes to each other?

These two girls I know from one of my classes are like sisters but they are MEAN to each other. They call each other names, stop on each others feet and play argue. I know they are just playing but friends aren't supposed to me assholes they are suppose to me nice and friendly. My cousin and his best friends are assholes to each other. My best friends are mean to each other and mean to me too.
One time they called me "Cheep ass!" When I told them I only brought $20 (I was on budget). They told me, "OMG Dana we were just kidding with you! GOD!!!!!" Sometimes they get tiring. One person said, "If you never been an ass to your friends then you guys arent real friends then." Stupid.

That’s because friends really are mean to each other, just how like you are mean to your Brother.

Of course everything is done in a playful tone. The main reason why friends are mean to each other because you got rid of the barrier that makes you have to act the way you are supposed to act. You feel more comfortable with each other hence allowing to call names to one another, fight , argue , etc. .

Sarcasm and jokes with your Friend? Normal , fun. Sarcasm to a stranger? That is considered rude.
