That is my job, all of my clients are very needy, a couple of them are very high maintenance

I tend to stay on my own a lot, and if I have to talk to someone too frequently or for long periods daily I get burned out.

Cut them off in mid-sentence with a quip like: "maybe you should talk to your therapist about that." Then walk away.

I didn't used to, but having learned more about caring about myself too, I am starting to, somewhat.
