how to not care about the 'approval' of others

[c=004A59][i]i want to be totally free of it and not care about the approval of others or not look for it? to some degree ive always cared about being approved by others and it maddens me because i want to be strong enough to not care if i get approved or not....especially by strangers who don't even know me, why should it matter if they approve of me or not?
