Primnproper · 56-60, F
I would find it so hard to pick one
The Merry Widow
Gigi
Meet Me In St Louis
My Fair Lady
South Pacific
Oklahoma
and so many more...

@Primnproper Seen Martin Guerre too.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
I love Guys and Dolls. Great tunes and brilliant funnny lyrics based on the stories of Damon Runyon, which I love.

@WelshLovely The last show I saw in NYC was Tootsie (several years ago with the original cast). That’s as hard as I have ever laughed at a show. Highly recommended. The song “Jeff Sums It Up” at the start of the second act is one of the funniest things I’ve seen.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Harmonium1923 I played Sky Masterson in a very bad summer camp production of that show.
@DrWatson There have been some very good London revivals.

Come From Away - it's about the people of Newfoundland and the plane people who descended when planes were diverted to Gander airport after the 9/11 attacks and airspace was closed. I've never laughed and cried so much in such a short space of time and it's currently on tour in the UK. If you get chance to see it, do it!

@WelshLovely I never heard of it but it sounds great!
WelshLovely · 46-50, F
@Harmonium1923 I've worked back stage on more shows than I can name and this is the first show in years that really got me excited. The cast all play several different characters and they use true stories from the people who were actually on the planes and in the town. Absolutely amazing!

Hair

I was fascinated with the era it took place in as a teen but not sure if who I am was shaped by my fascination with hippie/anti-vietnam culture or if I was partially attracted to learning about that time because of my personality.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@NativePortlander1970 I CRIED SO HARD. BUUURRRRGGGEEERRRR
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Honorable mention is CATS which I've seen an embarrassing amount of times and could at one point almost recite the whole thing through.

And Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat because it will always hold a special place in little theatre geek 🤓 teenage me. The songs STILL get stuck in my head.
And Jesus Christ Superstar. I just love Andrew Lloyd Weber.
@Starcrossed The ending is definitely an angry hard cry, as is Across the Universe..

Gigi (1958 film)
Peter Pan (1960 NBC presentation)
West Side Story (1961 film)
My Fair Lady (1964 film)
The Sound Of Music (1965 film)
The Producers (1968 film)
Fiddler on the Roof (1971 film)
Annie (1982 film)
I was too young to appreciate plays but thanks to my father a fan of then LPs 33RPM, I often heard the musical score by Percy Faith of KISMET. Was and still am
Taken by the tune, “Sands of Time”.

I'm trying to think of one... I don't care for them, find them annoying.

ETA: Oh! 'Phantom of the opera' I liked.
@Magenta I used to work with Sarah Brightman’s cousin Jenny. Lloyd Weber would not even give Jenny any free tickets!
@Magenta One of the rare musicals I do like
akindheart · 61-69, F
i saw To Kill a Mockingbird as a musical and it was an eye opener as to how badly people were treated.
Theater: The Three Penny Opera

Movie: A Hard Day’s Night
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Jesus Christ Superstar. All the 7/4 etc
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
For each genre of musicals perhaps a different one. There are so many, but if you ask me how many, which ones I've seen many times, then Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Hair, How to Succeed in Business, West Side Story, Tommy stand out as ones i would go to see again.
Richard65 · M
Probably West Side Story. I wasn't born, but I can only imagine the impact it must have had when it premiered in 1957.
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
Yankee Doodle Dandy, West Side Story, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Guys and Dolls.
twistedrope · 26-30, M
Musical? South park movie. That told a beautiful story...
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Avenue Q. It's like Sesame Street for adults.

Operas are musicals too.
JSul3 · 70-79

Aspects of Love.

Michael Ball was superb in it.

@losthorizons Seen it twice.
royalblue1193 · 31-35, M
@royalblue1193 Used to see that on my birthday.
Rent. It reminded me of life in the city back in the early 80s when most of my friends and I were kind of struggling.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@bijouxbroussard Such a sad story about the composer. He was subjected to medical malpractice and died!
@samueltyler2 Yes, that was so tragic. 🥺
@bijouxbroussard I loved Rent too.
DDonde · 31-35, M
@DDonde The fin is brilliant . Never seen it live.
I am no fan of musicals, BUT, I Love Fiddler on the Roof, it's historic concerning the plight of the Jewish People.
