Can we conttrol our thoughts?

I guess it's pretty well established that our thoughts originate in our brain. So if we can control them where/what is the controller? And if we can't control them, then what?

"You need to learn to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That's the only thing you should be trying to control."

@badminton Dear "Elizabeth Gilbert": It seems you don't understand the question so you just responded as if it didn't exist.

What other organ or which separate part of my brain do you suppose is deliberately 'cultivating' the ability to control what the rest of my brain is thinking? (and why, and how?)

We can’t control what comes to mind but we can control how long it stays there.

Yeah we can control them. I can relate it to what they call Mindfulness.

And who is the controller it is “I AM”

Any hard object can act as a controller 😏😏

There are philosophies that say perhaps our brain isn't a computer within itself, but maybe a receiver and transmitter.

And medical evidence is finding neuron simialr cells in our stomachs and other organs.

Not to mention, our chemical and electrical bodies are filled with more microorganisms than human cells.

So ....do we think for ourselves - or are our brains just a fliter for all the information being sent to it?

Maybe the brain is the switch box for our trains of thought🤔

If we cant control them, we obsess.🤷

wait, everything we know about the brain, comes from .... the brain(??!) 😱😱😂

we do our best manage our thoughts, but can't really 'control' them. some thoughts cause anxiety and stress - and we wish we could control those. at the same time, creativity happens when improvised thoughts enter our mind, so would controlling thoughts mean we no longer innovate?

my depression leads me to really awful places, and i wish i had a better solution than just observing and managing it.
