A second chance must be earned. The person getting the second chance has to want it enough to put in the work necessary to repair whatever the problem was in the first place, and they have to do it sincerely. Otherwise, they don't deserve a second chance — and even if they do the work and are sincere, you're not obligated to give it to them.
