I really do believe that they are setting the stage for a dementia defense—QI is mentally incompetent and incapable of understanding the charges against him.
But here’s the kicker—these crimes were committed years ago and the prosecution would respond that he was presumably “competent” when he committed the crimes. So while the dementia defense wouldn’t excuse him of the current charges, are they teeing it up for future—and far more serious—crimes he committed while in after leaving office?
