I am old school and do not possess a smart phone

I can not see myself ever getting a smart phone.
People tell me smart phones are so handy. Everything is at your finger tips.
My way of thinking is that "everything is at your fingertips" is leading society down the wrong path.
One only needs to get on a commuter train to see 90% of passengers with their eyes glued to a tiny screen. Not interacting with the person beside them, not noticing the scenery as it passes every one by.
When I purchased my new vehicle last week the salesman wanted to show me how to set up my phone/blue tooth.
I said don't worry about that. I am old school and and do not have a smart phone. I rarely listen to music and I dislike phones.
I also notice QR Codes everywhere. Without a smart phone I no not they reveal.
Do I think I am missing out?
No. Having survived this far without scanning a QR code I see no reason to start now.
Tell me some of the things available through QR codes that you think may be advantageous to this (getting there) old codger.

I think there must be a balance.

You don't listen to anyone around you when you involved with any form of technology. I doesn't matter what the technology is. Just take any machine.

If you're working on anything your focus must be on the technology. When you are driving your focus should be on the vehicle you are driving.

What we have done is taken out the social aspects when we use anything. It doesn't matter what the technology.

Decades ago there simply wasn't so much technology available. So our focus was on those around us.

There's a place and a time for technology. Just like with any tools. Yet to place your focus on one piece of technology you are ignoring everyone around you.

Yes I have a cellphone. I have to carry it in case of emergencies. Yet when I am in a restaurant or any social situation, I rarely ever use it.

If I was focused on anything I never would meet anyone. And I do like to meet new people. Even if I don't usually agree with them.

Yet if I didn't have the technology I truly wouldn't have a place to stay. Even to find employment you must have a place to stay.

So you must have and know how to use today's tools. A cellphone is today's all purpose tool.

A carpenter without a drill now day's simply isn't a carpenter. Like a taxi driver without a car, isn't a taxi driver.

And anyone without a cellphone today, is basically helpless.

I ran across a lady just yesterday, that was in bad need of a woman's shelter. She had no idea where to find one. So I helped her find one. With my cellphone!

No cellphone, she couldn't find anything. Nor could I have even helped her. I'm new to this area myself.

QR codes I don't even bother with. Those are for those that don't know how to use their own basic tools.

Would you trust a carpenter that didn't know how to use a hammer? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Let me ask you, do you ever use a slide ruler to make complex calculations?

If I must I have my cellphone calculator! With graphs and anything else I need.

I'm even prepared for the most up to date hazard waste tables. Right on my cellphone. That was once my job!

You might ask what need do I have for complex calculations for a graphics calculator...

This is a example. It's called math art!...

I'm interested in literally everything! Even graphics editing. All on my cellphone. I don't have a computer.

Even ran a website once on my cellphone. It's my ALL purpose tool.

Want to know what's going on in Japan? I have access to that directly from Japan in English. Everywhere I go.

Yet it doesn't mean that I am ALWAYS on my cellphone.

I held off on buying a smart phone for a long time. In the end what got me was google maps. Jacking the phone into the car screen for google maps was something I couldnt ignore...😷

I’m inclined not to get one either but I can’t get into the Millennium Stadium without one or use Ticketmaster for concerts because the way they have their apps set up you need one.
Won’t send tickets to your e-mail…..
Slippery slope.

@TheSirfurryanimalWales I would write to the company saying there are hundreds of thousands of potential customers willing to pay but are locked out because of your business model.
@Gusman They don’t care….I’ve had the argument.

Pretty soon you won't be able to get by without one. One thing I like about technology is paying my utilities online. I can even schedule a payment arrangement if I need one. I haven't had to call in years. And it's easy peasy. Anyone can do it. I save my fingerprint to my iPad so when I touch the power button it logs me in. My iPad also saves my payment info so I don't have to get my card out. You'll get the hang of it after a while.
