Please, help me understand this

So, we all know our phones are listening, all the time. A guy I work with he and I were talking, and in our conversation he says, well, I don't want to say this because I know I'll get a bunch of ads, but Air Jordans..... I don't remember where the conversation went after that, but no sooner than I got home, sure enough I had ads on my phone for Air Jordans. But, there is something else.....

I was telling the same coworker today that there's been times I've just thought about stuff, never actually said it, and I would get ads related to what I was thinking. So, here's one way I can prove that. About a week or two ago I started thinking about those Nascar games I would play, and I wish I could find my Nascar Heat CD. I never uttered the word NASCAR, only thought about it. Today I'm on youtube, there's a Nascar 2001 video in my feed. I never searched for Nascar, I never talked about Nascar.

So what in the heck is going on?!? It's not a coincidence. What sort of technology does Google and beyond, really have??
