Do you stand out from the crowd?

Carla · 61-69, F
I stand away from crowds.
RenFur · 70-79, M

I try to avoid crowds, you get your pockets picked in crowds.
RenFur · 70-79, M
@come2gether

Indeed!
No, I’m out standing in my field…
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Mamapolo2016

And embarrass bb?

OKAY!! 🤣
@RenFur @Mamapolo2016 🤗🤗
@RenFur Heck, no!
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Out in the world i think I probably do if only because i am often the only person wearing a skirt and almost always the only person who is barefoot.

But here on SW? Not as much as in the 'real world'!
RenFur · 70-79, M
@ninalanyon

You're a brave soul. Get harassed often?
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@RenFur Almost never. I can only think of two occasions that come near in almost six years of dressing in public and it was only a couple of insults. I suspect that a few people had a private giggle, especially in the first few years when I was still rather nervous.

In the English speaking countries I get a lot more negative reactions to the fact that if the temperature is above about 4 deg.C I'll be barefoot.

I don't feel brave, I don't feel threatened. But of course I don't go to places where I know that I'm likely to be viewed especially negatively. I drive all the way from Norway to the UK dressed, through ferry checkin, passport control, customs, cafes, etc. with no problems. But the whole journey is through countries well known for their liberal attitudes, I haven't tried dressing in Poland for instance although I have been barefoot on a number of occasions in Krakow and had only positive reactions.

I was a bit nervous the first time I went dressed through a ferry customs check at Dunkirk on the way to Dover about five years ago. I was even more nervous when the entire French security crew gathered around my car. But they neither commented on how I was dressed nor looked as though they were surprised or disapproving. They weren't even interested in the contents of my car; it turns out that most of them had never seen a Tesla Model S in person and they just wanted to take a good look at it!
RenFur · 70-79, M
@ninalanyon

Wonderful response. Thanks for opening some hearts and minds - plus, the Tesla anecdote was funny :D
robertsnj · 56-60, M
I try to blend in as much as possible . however I still wear a covid mask which makes me stand out a bit right now.

I dont wear bright clothing, or walk fast, or make a lot of noise in public. I am average height for a man, average weight, soft spoken and do not really have mannerisms that would seem unique.

I think for most people who stand out in a crowd they are doing it intentionally and may have an "attention seeking" aspect to their personality. I find that aspect fascinating since I am the complete opposite and feels foreign to me attempt to intentionally seek attention.
RenFur · 70-79, M
@robertsnj

Do you also avoid staring at someone while conversing with them - - directly in their eyes for long stretches of time?
robertsnj · 56-60, M
@RenFur yeah that is a good point. I make eye contact. Outside of work I don't really have long conversations often. In business is important to have eye contact. Your seen as shady/ shifty if you are looking around.
I'm proud to blend in with the background
RenFur · 70-79, M
@SooperSarah

Pay you no nevermind? Suits me, too :D
RenFur · 70-79, M
@sunriselover

Are you the extrovert's extrovert or does going along to get along as boring as eff for you?
@RenFur I’m certainly not boring. Life is too short.
Only because no one will sit near me. 😤
I accidentally got my face stuck in a grumpy expression, so everyone thinks I want them to stay away from me all the time.
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Colonelmustardseed

Oh man - me, too. "What's wrong?" is a comment I hear often. You too?
@RenFur Yes. 😂 It’s so awkward having to say, “nothing. It’s just my face.”
ElizaJane · 56-60, F
I avoid that. It's more interesting and easier to people watch and learn when you act invisible
👀
Muffintopgina · 22-25, F
Yeah if I’m wearing one of my dead short tight skirts lol
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Muffintopgina

*heading to your page with alacrity*
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I seem to, although I'm not trying to.
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Nitedoc

Just glanced at your page - you've quite a few powerhouse posts. This is some of the desired "standing out from the crowd" kinda stuff.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@RenFur I said I "seem to". I'm not sure why but I'm not complaining. I just hope my "luck" holds out!
Nope. I don’t want to. 🙂
RenFur · 70-79, M
@mindstruggle

Maybe be excellent in an understated way?
@RenFur
I’m not really sure about excellent. No. 😬
RenFur · 70-79, M
@mindstruggle

Okay - maybe you're like me (wallowing in and enjoying mediocrity)?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I'm tall so sometimes I do, I like to blend in though
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
I hope not...😷
RenFur · 70-79, M
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@RenFur Hardly. But you get away with a lot more if the spotlight isnt on you..I never wanted to be one of the famous faces at the table. I prefer to be one of the faceless people sitting behind them feeding them facts..😷
IronEagle · M
Yes I do
a lot
RenFur · 70-79, M
@IronEagle

How so? Physically?
IronEagle · M
@RenFur i’m a former athlete. I was in great shape. I’m different from other people
Arantxa · 18-21, F
I try my best not to
Plasticbag · 100+, M
Yes. I’m odd
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Plasticbag

SW is the place to be!
itsok · 31-35, F
I’m not sure
RenFur · 70-79, M
@itsok

You're mingling with misfits so in order to stand out you have to out-strange the strange!
Flex you 'tude on a Bardy post 🤣
Iwillwait · M
I'm sure I do.
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Iwillwait

On SW you certainly do :D
RenFur · 70-79, M
@GlitterEater

Three's a crowd has rarely been truer. (I think??)
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Nope...I blend in
RenFur · 70-79, M
@scorpiolovedeep

I'd say so
TheFragile · 46-50, M
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
Not anymore
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Donotfolowme

You used to be a party girl but you woke up in strange places one too many times??! 🫣
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
@RenFur Yes, I used to party a lot but always aware where I was waking up.
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Donotfolowme

I'm sorry - I took my lil poke in your ribs too far.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
RenFur · 70-79, M

Most definitely and in a most delightful way, too. 🩷

Seriously, I can't possibly understand what school age children (in the U.S.) must feel and fear every single school day.

This is a good news/bad news comment if there ever was one! Good news because your grandchildren are safe and bad news because of the continuing, shameful inaction of Congress.
