Anniversary of the Battle of Cromdale

One of the forgotten battles of the wars between William of Orange and James VII. The Haughs of Cromdale was a victory for the Williamites over a Jacobite army in the Highlands. There is a nonsense song about it, which has rollicking lyrics and no facts.

Im not so familiar with the earlier Jacobite wars. I am familiar with Killicrankie. I have walked along the valley. Its a very scenic walk. When I was a coach driver, i used to pull off the road and tell the story. I would then play the song.

I am more familiar with the 1745 uprising under Bonnie Prince Charlie. The anniversary of Culloden was only a couple of weeks ago.

@Jacko1971 Cromdale was the year following Killiecrankie, but it has been overshadowed by the Battle of the Boyne the same year, the same war and the same result.

@MandyMitchell I believe 12(?) th of July is a national holiday in Northern Ireland.

@Jacko1971 You could well be right. Don't tell them that Orange Billy's main ally was His Most Catholic Majesty the king of Spain and the Pope helped finance Billy's army.
