Indiana High School Student Who Refused To Remove American Flag From Truck Fulfills Dying Wish Of Oklahoma Boy
Cameron Blasek, the 17-year-old from Indiana who stood his ground when administrators demanded he remove an American flag from his truck, just drove 16 hours to fulfill the dying wish of an Oklahoma boy.
Resist The Mainstream reported last month that Blasek, a senior at East Central High School in St. Leon, Indiana, said that his counselor and a vice principal ordered him to remove the flag from his school.
The high schooler refused to comply with the demands from the school officials, telling them, “no, that’s not going to happen. I can’t.”
He said, “The flag itself represents this country, this beautiful country that we live in,” during an interview with WCPO. Blasek added that “it also represents the people who fought their lives for it. And I think that’s a really hard thing to talk about, but I think it’s a big thing.”
He eventually doubled down and covered his entire truck with the flag, thanks to a Cincinnati graphic design company.
Blasek received a heartfelt message earlier this month from the family of Jaxon, a 13-year-old who chose not to proceed with chemotherapy after battling cancer since the age of two.
FOX 19 reported that Jaxon’s dying wish was to ride to his final resting place in Blasek’s decked out truck.
Blasek and his father dropped everything to venture the 16-hour trek from Indiana to Oklahoma, despite the message popping up out of the blue.
Blasek’s mother spoke about touching story of Jaxon’s final wish on Facebook, writing, “Cameron received a message from a stranger in Hollis, Oklahoma, asking for a favor.”
“This is one of those favors you drop everything you thought was important and say yes to without a second thought,” she added. “I believe God had a hand in all those little things that worked up to this purpose.”
Upon reaching Hollis, Oklahoma, Blasek and his father carried Jaxon’s body to the cemetery while the entire town rallied around to support his family.
A family friend weighed in on the event on Facebook, writing, “It was an absolute honor to be a part of something so special yesterday. The entire town shut down and showed up for this little boy and his family.”
