Would u ever eat lab produced meat?

It's coming..
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
Yes I would eat it, and have eaten it. I live in Singapore which imports most of our food so food security is a big deal. We already have lab grown chicken nuggets which taste just about the same.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Longpatrol lots of people wish they lived in that orderly a society. Singapore punches WAY above its weight class.
Wiseacre · F
@Longpatrol yeah, but what about health?
Matt85 · 36-40, M
No. Why do that when there are plenty of tasty, vegetarian options?

I'd be glad to see it though, if it reduces the killing of stock animals.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
seems like a good idea, use the same forms of protein synthesis that a body uses to make muscle tissue and fat and make steaks or chicken breasts. all made in laboratory conditions, no diseases, no need for antibiotics. no need to have an animal living in captivity to one day be eaten. its just not an idea we are used to so it apears weird. I train myself to resist that sensation that makes new things look weird and undesireable, this is just an outdated program we inherited from living in the wild millions of years ago.
Not intentionally. From what I read, they’re too much like tumors.
@Elessar Because your immediate take of what I said wasn’t what I said at all. And then you demand “what’s the fuss?” when I wasn’t fussing. Do you understand how that comes across?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Colonelmustardseed That was my perplexity at something that sounded and still sound hypersensationalist to me but that, even if factual, I still don't see how it should be a problem.

Especially when compared to the status quo and its array of massive problems beyond that of ethics (pollution, antibiotic abuse, ethics, etc.)
@Elessar You could always start with asking a person their reasoning. Your approach was argumentative instead.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
It is . . I would certainly try it, but I much prefer fresh vegetables, fruit and grains to heavily processed food.

That said, I can see clear benefits compared to intensively reared meat such as poultry, including the elimination of diseases such as salmonella which appear to be endemic to modern agriculture.
deadgerbil · 22-25
As opposed to meat filled with hormones and antibiotics?
Absolutely, if it's affordable anyway.
mayguy · 46-50, M
Yes, because I believe in SCIENCE. Whereas famous (sadly) eee-dee-utz like a certain governor in a certain huge state that is often satirized around the world (gee, I wonder why) does not. He made it the first state to ban lab-grown meat in order to pacify Big Cattle there and score points in the race for his party's VP slot.
@mayguy For good reason he banned it.

@NativePortlander1970 except, of course, he's talking about plant-based meat alternatives and not lab grown meat, which is, you know actual meat🤣
Wiseacre · F
@NativePortlander1970 yep, meat alternatives are processed.

sure... but you wanna know the real issue here ?

if you can make beef or pork.... nothing is gonna stop you from making human meat.
and would that be illegal to eat ? its just protein meshed together after all... noone is hurt.
@Wiseacre it's a very interesting technique. Some of my own skin cells are even happily beating as heart tissue in a lab somewhere.
Wiseacre · F
@NerdyPotato skin cells..u mean dead skin?
@Wiseacre not dead, but there was no cutting or any kind of pain involved either. They retrieved them from a cup of urine.

Only if it can move itself autonomously across my plate.

thisguy20 · 41-45, M
No; because if its produced in a lab it is, by definition, not meat.
@thisguy20 why not? Is the result of IVF not a human?
SW-User
@thisguy20 Why not?
bowman81 · M
It better be better than the veggie burger they make now. Yuck.
Piper · 61-69, F
Yes. I will try it if it's affordable...when available here.
ArtieKat · M
I'd certainly try it
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Can’t be worse than what the local Chinese restaurant uses as meat .meow
