So much depends upon where you live, what lifestyle you want, and how long you live.
I live in a medium to low-cost area of the U.S., and planned for a comfortable lifestyle.
I planned for a minimum $50k per year for 25 years, which, if you do the math, tells you I'll need $1.25 million.
I've been retired for a while, and so far so good. Oh, I have no mortgage and am paying rent off the proceeds of the house I sold, which was paid off.

@Ontheroad From the research that I have done, you are in the range that financial experts recommend. Thanks for sharing. May I ask at what age did you retire?

@AmericanAvenger I retired at 62.

@Justice4All My income streams get annual inflation increases, so while I planned for $50k, it has been going up each year.
