So I don't know about you guys...

But when I was growing up, my mom and dad didn't sugar coat stuff to my siblings and I.

For example, they didn't hesitate to tell us the kinds of bad things that could happen if we hung out with the wrong people and went to jail, or worse. They had to be real with us because of where we lived. Lots of bad influences around.

Same with mine. My mother used to tell us, "fair or not, you are judged by the company you keep." She also understood the power of peer groups and urged us not to get involved with kids who, (she’d say) "had no goals or plans".
