That's so beautiful and wonderful question...
I loved the picnics near the beach we used to do in the summer. Once in a while my mom would make usually meatballs, potatoes, boiled eggs, fruits and dolmades (rice wrapped in grape leaves) and pack a large cloth for the floor and my dad would drive us all, my two sisters, sometimes cousins would come or we'd pick up my grandma... And then we'd usually carry a chair for her to sit.. and we'd spend the whole day in nature, under the trees, play, run, get dirty, laugh loudly, eat, rest under the shades, eat fruits... And a couple of hours before the sunset we'd pack and begin for the drive home.
Really thank you for this question. Those were something really beautiful to remember...

My mom took me on some all day canoe trips when I was a tween with my uncle and cousin.
Fishing and camping had amazing times. Also traveling with them was one of my most vivid memories
@mindlessdrifter that also....living on the west coast we had some very memorable camping trips....east coast too when i lived in ontario for a short time
@beermeplease I am glad you brought this topic up, we need the memories to focus on 😁

Christmas time my dad would make mom breakfast - - and we knew they wanted to have a bit of alone time after making Christmas morning so special for my sister and me.
We used to go camping every summer for like 3 weeks. My mom got along with everyone. There were always people around every where we went.
@Spoiledbrat same here 🤗

I miss our frequent family vacations, family board game nights every Friday, going to work with my dad sometimes to his office and I’d pretend I was the secretary, those wonderful, endless summers at Washademoak lake, my mom’s baking; it was superb. Could go on for hours
Lots of great memories with both of them.
Mom rode horses as a child. She wanted me to have that experience. There was a riding academy near the beach and she would rent a horse; we would ride, me sitting cradled in front of her, along the shore. I remember her telling me, "this is not like a bicycle, but is a living creature with whom you interact." She would always have a treat for the horse, and would pet and talk to it before and after our ride.

When I was younger we had a boat. On Saturday nights in the summer we would go across the Potomac River to the Maryland side. There was a place there called Sandy Point. We would have dinner then listen to the live rock bands that played there. I really really enjoyed that.
@Musicman "boatloads" of fun for sure

@beermeplease My dad used to like crabs and beer. Of course it was a Coke for me. 😋

I remember my dad teaching me discipline as not to get angry.and setting me down and talking to me,then teaching me Tai Kwon Do,and showed me never show off just to prove you could do it.but use as a last resort if in danger.and always walk away as words cannot hurt me
@Lilnonames your dad was a wise man and raised an amazing daughter 🤗
My Dad volunteering to be a chaperone with our first grade field trip to the Washington Park Zoo ten minutes SW of DownTown Portland in September 1976 when I was six years old, I still have the photograph my Dad took of me sitting on the edge of one of the pebble stone fountains near the entrance.
@NativePortlander1970 absolutely priceless 🤗
@beermeplease My Dad loved doing things like this with my older brothers and me, while my mother couldn't be bothered. My mother also loved to punish and ground me every time I turned around, so my Dad took me to movies to compensate, I must have seen Star Wars in the theater at least 35 times before Empire came out, our local cinema bought a copy and kept it on their 70mm big screen all the time on the weekends, it was always packed.
