Wedding Invitation Request

This is a follow up to another post I had about my niece's wedding being in the traditional Catholic latin rite.
On the website with the invitation it said
"Please dress modestly out of respect and reverence"
Do you find that condescending?
I don't that anyone in my family would dress inappropriately.

No I don't. If it's important to them, it's their wedding.

Some situations don't require 30lbs of tit hanging out and I've definitely seen people dress for a wedding like they're going to the club.

The wedding is about the bride and groom, it's their day. Why do attention seeking people need to show up in outfits they know will get lots of stares. An elegant nice outfit looks much nicer than some tiny dress with their tits hanging out.
I don’t see how it’s more condescending than asking guests to wear black and white, or red shoes for the wedding dance production.

It’s their wedding and I don’t think it’s offensive. It’s probably pointless, what with folks wearing what they wear.

And, of course, if one chooses to attend a cousin’s wedding dressed like CardiB, they can always just throw them out.

@Mamapolo2016 I seriously doubt anyone in this social circle would dress like CardiB lol.
but yes point taken.

I have been shocked at what some people wear to a church for a wedding.

I am guessing that this notice was born out of history of frustration at that particular church.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@DrWatson I'm not sure that this is even their parish. They chose one that that can do the old latin rite. But perhaps they have seen people dress inappropriately.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
I don’t, with so many people not going to church nowadays a reminder doesn’t hurt.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Jeephikelove My family is very Catholic and mass attending though. But they could have friends that are not.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
@JimboSaturn exactly, it’s not just family
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Jeephikelove True, I still doubt they would even have friends like that but who knows.
ArtieKat · M
Only slightly condescending - but presumably the bride and groom know the possible behaviour of their guests.......
Not at all. I don’t know that she’s invited anyone other than your immediate family, but at my middle sister’s wedding our cousin’s +1 arrived in a crop top and jeans. Also a Catholic service. I remember Mom murmured "did she come en route to the beach ?" 🤭
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard True, I never thought about peoples' dates.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
A black Muslim student (from Africa ) at one of my former school died and they told the black moms of American black students that the funeral was a somber event, with no wailing or putting on shows. They were offended . I don’t think you should be .
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@AthrillatheHunt I find over the top displays inappropriate, but I would feel weird telling people how to behave.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@JimboSaturn it was a peace offering to offer the invitation to the funeral to the neighbors but they wanted it to be African style , and felt they needed to tell the locals how to act based on previous behaviors .
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@AthrillatheHunt Oh man that's a tough call.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
I do not but I grew up in that culture. But I also wouldn’t mind adhering to cultural requirements for any wedding, within reason.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Flenflyys True, if I had to wear a yarmulke to a Jewish wedding I wouldn't be insulted.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
No ,I think people are too easily triggered, myself.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Justmeraeagain One could argue, that my niece's request is because she is triggered by people's clothes.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@JimboSaturn I suppose if they wanted to be contrary they could do that.
Why is it such a hard concept to understand you don't dress like you're going to a bar on some occasions?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Justmeraeagain Oh I agree. You shouldn't dress you are going to a disco for a wedding. Nor does the bride have to look super sexy.
robertsnj · 56-60, M
I hope she has a nice wedding. You offer up to her that if she married in "not a church" she would almost immediatly cut the wedding bill in half.

I find the God tax of churches on wedding more consending --nobody needs their God's premission to marry....

Them Latin Rite folks are hard core anyway so I can totally see them making requests like that & asking women to wear some kind of hair covering. But like as has already been pointed out, it's their day, their way.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@ineedadrink My sister and niece's family are very right wing hard core Catholics.
Louis54 · 61-69, M
I have more against those that require that I wear a tuxedo - as I'm too fat to get into mine anymore.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Louis54 Yes I hear you!
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
Very condescending. It suggests guests have no sense of propriety.
No, I don´t, It´s their wedding. You choose whether to attend or not.
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
Interesting request. Perhaps she’s invited others from outside the family?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Quimliqer Perhaps. Her fiance is very religious as well but who knows.
metaldog · 51-55
You gonna wear that kilt??
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@metaldog Lol, no. The attention should be on the couple not me.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I'd attend dressed as the gimp from Pulp Fiction.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@uncalled4 So much for my ass-less chaps!

@Jenny1234 Totally agree but should it be in the wedding invitation?
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
