My computer and Internet can wait - they are not important.
My priority if I were to buy a stand-by generator would be the fridge and freezer first, microwave second, electric-kettle third. I can heat water and some canned foods on the gas-stove; and use torches for the little lighting necessary.
When in due course my land-line becomes converted to fully-fibre I'd need ensure keeping my portable 'phone charged to ensure maintaining contact with the mains electricity supply off. Or buying a battery-pack for the broadband phone.
My problem with a generator fuelled by petrol is that power-cuts are so rare (and usually of quite short duration) that the engine might not start due to standing unused for months, even a couple of years.
