Conservative MP for Dover, Natalie Elphick, has defected to Labour . .

Under Rishi Sunak, she says the Tories have "become a byword for incompetence and division" 😳

Sorry to break the news, but that process long pre-dates the current prime minister 🤣

Don't care what party you're from, if you join another party then there should be a by-election
barney1 · M
@SunshineGirl there is already a prospective Labour candidate in dover, will be interesting who gets the official Labour backing.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@barney1 is his last name Corbyn

As a Bernie Sandars and AOC supporter and Democrat voter if I was British instead of American then I would definitely vote Labour for sure! 💖💖💖 Compassion for others less fortunate is important as Jesus said love one another! 😇😇😇

@MommyLucy its a bit difficult deciding who to vote for not much offered by either

Incompetence, division, callousness and corruption.
This country has slid so far down I doubt it can ever crawl back up to gutter level.

She's on the hard right of the Tory Party. She's very anti immigration, brexity and would not be out of place on GB news. Starmer's Labour welcomes her with open arms.

MPs on the left lose the whip for speaking out over Gaza. I keep telling liberals what this means for how Starmer's Labour will rule. They are not ready to hear it yet. Not from me.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Burnley123 Her views on renters' rights are close to Labour party policy, but for the rest I wouldn't touch her with a bargepole.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 It's certainly bizarre. But I have a feeling that Starmer may behave differently if he becomes PM with a substantial majority.
MartinII · 70-79, M
But it has got worse under Sunak. And at least his two predecessors had some kind of vision, however much you might disagree with it. Sunak strikes me as being very much like May, no ideas or political principles, just a few prejudices.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@JustJan In a sense, I hope you are right. My fear is that if the Tories do a little better in the general election than most people are predicting, he may find an excuse to stay on.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@MartinII Like May he was a compromise candidate introduced in the midst of crisis, so he had a pretty weak hand from the outset. But there were ways in which he could have played it better.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl Not quite. May was elected leader unopposed, presumably because it was thought she would appeal to right and left, Brexiteers and Remainers (in fact of course she appealed to none of those). Sunak was defeated, and became leader only because Truss had proved incompetent and had been hounded out of office.
OliRos · 18-21, F
This is a plot by ultra right Tories to further destabilise Sunak and to sew division in Labour ranks.

So far, it is working.

Born to rule.... supposedly...

@SunshineGirl same here with our equivalent Liberal party... It's always interesting on election nights when they lose watching their faces😝
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Convivial A televisual highlight of my year . . second only to Eurovision 😊
Convivial · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl is there a difference between the two... Aren't they both talent shows?🤔
Yeah, if she truly had Conservative views she wouldn't deflect to Labour. Maybe a more lucrative pay package 🤭
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic Your guess is as good as mine . . atm I can't think of one solid reason for her crossing, nor of Labour accepting her.
@SunshineGirl She actually had some standard jobs before, so I can't accuse her of being a career politician.... guess it will remain a mystery.....
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic No, definitely not. She first stood for parliament after her husband was jailed for sexual abuse, then was criticised for abusing her authority to defend him publicly . . misplaced loyalty, perhaps.

@BlueGreenGrey She is an independent parliamentary representative and she has the freedom to act in the best interests of her constituents. They will shortly have the opportunity to pass judgement on her decision . .
