The complicated life of a Conservative MP

Mark Menzies, honourable member for Fylde, has left the Conservative Party this afternoon and will not seek re-election following allegations in The Times of misuse of local party funds.

In early December the 78 year old treasurer of the constituency association received a call at 3 in the morning from her MP requesting a cheque for £5,000. He apparently needed the money to pay some "bad people" who had locked him in a flat 🤦‍♀️ He is also suspected of using £14,000 from party funds to pay medical bills.

How on earth do these clowns find the time to get locked in flats and why do their thoughts turn first to voluntary funds as a way of getting themselves out again? 🤷‍♀️

What I don't understand is that no one seems to have called the police at the time. Surely if you received such a call you would call the police even if you did hand over the money.

@ninalanyon The treasurer didn't hand over the money, but someone else in the constituency association did. She is unhappy that the party did not investigate her concerns (and probably leaked the story to the press). Meanwhile, Lancashire constabulary has received no formal complaint . .

@SunshineGirl I haven't been following it in detail, but every time I do encounter another detail it gets stranger. So several people knew that this was going on and no one though that reporting a crime was a good idea?

@ninalanyon Very strange perspectives and ethical standards. I'm a former civil servant and this type of behaviour drives me mad as most ordinary people involved in government would never have got themselves into such a compromising situation.

Where money is concerned there's temptation, there's money missing around £667,000 from the SNP funds, people from all walks of life take from the till not all get caught.

@senghenydd As I remember, £120K of that got 'invested' in a fancy campervan for his mother-in-law 🚐

@SunshineGirl The Campervan was their biggest mistake, some people simply can't be trusted with money.

@BritishFailedAesthetic It is all very mysterious . .

Most of the tory party's antics is all about sex.
I expect it was some sexual adventure gone wrong.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@meggie I imagine so, it's like watching a low quality 1970s sex farce 🤦‍♀️ I just don't know where they find the time in between supposedly representing 100,000 constituents.

@SunshineGirl they are a very "loving" party

Not all that honorable, it would seem. 😅

@ineedadrink Definitely not 😞
My late paternal Grandfather always said that people went into politics for only one thing, to get rich from corruption.

@NativePortlander1970 But be a bit more subtle . . get a "second job" or something like that 🤷‍♀️
