Ethnicity is 6th or 7th generation American German. My grandmother grew up speaking German in school in rural Wisconsin. I am told I also have a dash of French.

@pride49 I've never heard that abbreviation before, but I like it. I have several dictionaries actually. My biggest one actually has 10 volumes and takes up over two feet of shelf space. It's a specialist "dick" for people doing in-depth translation work. Of course, I'm not a size queen. Sometimes that dictionary is just too girthy for me. I have a one volume that does the job just fine. It's not the size of your dictionary that counts, it's how you use it. 😉
