How did they saying “eat like a bird” come about?

I feel like it’s actually an insult.

They’re not dainty little eaters. They eat A LOT and leave a huge mess behind.

It is just a saying like "sweat like a pig" when pigs don't sweat. Just a simile, only to be taken with a grain of salt
