A living South African legend - cartoonist J. Shapiro

I'm having a hero day.. and I want to mention one of mine.

Cartoonists have a special ability to bring metaphors to life, along with immortalizing public opinion in visual form, ''bottom-lining'' our perceptions of life in a way that we appreciate as an art form of it's own.

Mr. Shapiro is one such individual, check out his stuff on the links below.

When i was younger, at preschool graduation when other kids mentioned that they wanted to be firemen or marine biologist or doctors one day when they were big

I declared that i wanted to be a cartoonist. As i loved the Simpsons and I even attempted my own sketches of Bart and his skateboard, one of which made it into the family memories album.

Zapiro is a talented cartoonist, and has the job my six year old self dreamed about. His stuff is mostly in the political sphere, and i'm not sure if i would've gone into that field ( i probably would have gone into literary illustration or film story boarding) but i fully admire his talent for what it is.

I recognised that name immedately. I lived in SA for 30 years, migrated back to Europe in 2020
Zapiro’s is an interesting story. He was arrested as an anti-apartheid activist, basically a badge of honor now.
