What exactly does my mentally ill friend think he's actually going to get out of this?

He used to live with his mom and sister. The mom died 2 years ago, he and his sister were doing good till he got manic again one day and he moved out. Even though the house is still being paid on and is not up for sale, he's talking about filing a civil suit and is expecting to get 85,000 for that house somehow
