What's the best attire for work?

Been going in wearing smart attire.
Polo neck with smart flared trousers,
Polo neck with cord trousers
I wore a vibrant purple non clingy flowing shirt dress with a long Cardigan and doc Martin boots...
Anyways I get the sense that a. I wear too much makeup. Blush and foundation.
B. I'm overdressed for work.

The reason being the women are casual and mostly wear trousers.
They also decided to give me cleaning duties on my dress wearing day.
I was looked up and down by the visiting security man but not secually, I think as a what the?
Since his expression wasn't appeasing.

I've also noticed my presence has made some women wear hooped earrings, and change their hair dos.

It's an architects office, they are casual and the women wear trousers and jumpers and maintain a very fit androgynous body type...

I've always been taught to dress smart and make the effort especially when sitting at the front desk.
I'll have to see what happens going forward.
