Why do customers treat retail employees like we are therapists?

Therapists make a lot more money than us.

Minimum wage employees aren’t going to care that your baby mama took your kid away, or that you’re being cyber stalked, or that your kid is growing too fast.

Pay us more if you’re going to torture us with your personal issues 😡

Randall from Clerks said it beat about retail "This job would be great if it wasn't for the fucking customers."

@theoldschoola I worked at a grocery store year's ago. At time's I felt like drinking after my shift. I like the people I worked with. But some of the customers would drive u crazy

Attention shoppers! Yes I work here, no there is no more in the back and I really don’t have time for you to count out 23 cents in change from the bottom of your purse. Can’t you see the other 12 people waiting in line? No there are no other people to open more check lanes. Thank you and have a great day. (did I forget anything 🤔)

I worked in retail for many years and it's funny how most retail workers are looked down upon yet customers want them to be the best therapists like you say. When I worked in retail and someone came to me with a personal problem in their life, I would just change the subject and make it about the product being sold.

A lot of people feel alone these days, and most people just need someone to listen to them. They may not realize that they are giving their life story to someone that they just met, they just need an ear. Also, if you see the same cashier because you go to the same store, you may have a sense of familiarity with them even if you don't know each other well.

Sometimes, but not always, this may be how friendships form.

Everybody has a story, it's just that no one takes the time to listen.
@Bri89 okay but have you considered that we don’t care about you? They make me hate my job.

reason 1 of many not to be a cashier. I liked being a floor associate, I can just walk away whenever I want

Why would someone open up to a random person.
@SW-User because we are essentially in a hostage situation and can’t tell them to shut up

@666Maggotz i am too introverted to consider that
