I Have Been In An Airplane

3 Airplanes, 19 Hours Straight... Now, I've flown on airplanes. I've been to places like New York, New Jersey, Aruba, Venezuela, Georgia, and Washington D.C. But those only required one flight, good service, and didn't feel like I've been on the plane for a century. Flying on airplanes just to get to Israel was another story...

The first flight to get to Israel was to New York. I went on JetBlue and it was a great experience. There was plenty of space between the seats like there should have been and the stewardesses were very hospitable and smiling. The best part was the TVs! I loved watching TV while we were in the air. It's much more entertaining than staring at the seat in front of you. I also love how they had a radio with many channels on the TV. Nothing like classical music to put me at ease and asleep. Total duration of the flight: about 2-3 hours.

The second flight was to Aerosvit. Or as me and my friend calls it- "Aeroshit." One important reason it deserves that name is because it is pretty much the flight from Hell. The stewardesses didn't smile once and gave looks like they were ready to jump out of the plane. The food they gave us was expired and the date wasn't hidden. Mine said November 28, 2011 and I was on that flight on December 11. I'm sure their defense was that the food was frozen but that's not an excuse. As soon as I saw that, I didn't even touch my food. There's a clear explanation as to why the service was so terrible along with the flight attendents on there- they were anti-semites. Not exactly a good idea for Jews traveling to Israel. It's a total joke for them to send us to a place where we get that kind of treatment. The seats were also as hard as bricks so it takes a sleeping pill to fall asleep. But also, I have this thing where I feel uncomfortable people walking around and seeing me passed out in my seat. But that's just a me thing. Another thing about the seats was that they were too close together. So once you put your bag under your seat, you might not be able to pull it back out until the end of the flight. Total duration of the flight: about 13 hours!

Then from Aerosvit, we went to our destination: Israel. That flight actually wasn't that bad. They gave us fruit this time and somehow, I was able to fall asleep. Duration of the flight: about 3 hours.

The flights back to America were a little bit better. Aerosvit was more friendlier. They actually spoke to us when we needed something instead of ignoring us. Well, it took them about an hour to give me a glass of water but it's still a step up. I remember in Israel we immediately had to get on the Kiev flight as soon as we landed because boarding would be 10 minutes later. On that flight, an 80 year old Russian woman sat next to me. It was her first time ever on a flight. I had to give her props. She was a real trooper. I could tell that she was getting scared when we were about to land. I would be too if I didn't know what landing would feel like. I did to her what I wish someone would have done for me on my first flight-held her hand.

And of course, the JetBlue flight to get back to Florida was amazing. Overall, I felt like those three plane rides were a real adventure. I mean, to take so many to get to one destination and it was a first for me to not take a non-stop flight to a destination. But I will say this- if I had to take all of those flights again, I would do it in a second just so I can go back to Israel, a place I like to think of as my home away from home.
