Buying bicycles on ebay
One frustrating thing about bicycles on ebay is how most of them are "local pickup only" because the sellers don't want to deal with shipping. However, it's easy to get around this. Just contact a local bike shop as most of them ship bikes all the time. I've done this for a few bikes I've bought. For around $100, most bike shops will pick up the bike, disassemble it, and professionally pack it. They will then use BikeFlights or a similar service to ship it to you, which costs around $100 to $130 depending on how far it is. Every bike shop has bike shipping boxes, which they will usually let you use for free, saving you around $80 which is what BikeFlights charges if you don't have one.
Here's the last one I bought, an older Rans Stratus with tiller steering. The seller was a Goodwill in Texas that let it go for $300 as they had no idea what it was really worth. It was in flawless condition except for the idler pulleys, which the bike shop that shipped it was able to replace.
This is a great design for teaching someone to ride, as they can put their feet down and get a feel for balance before they try to pedal.
