Have you ever grappled with someone's else ego?
When did you witness someones large ego get absolutely flattened? Does anyone have any funny stories about guys with big egos coming in and just getting tossed around. Apparently at the gym I train at a new guy came in and said he couldn’t be choked. Everyone just choked him that night and he never came back. We all know a thing or two about this subject. Just as we all also comprehend that, in dealing with the the ego of someone else we are also dealing with the ego of ourselves.
I watched a man recently at an airport belittle a woman at the check-in desk for overlooking the fact that he had a Gold card for the airline on which he was traveling. I was standing behind him in the queue. The woman checking him in noted that his bag was ten kilos overweight. He began to reproach her for being so mean minded; that, after all, he had a Gold card and, as such, should be treated with respect. She said: “I am treating you with respect… and if it was two kilos overweight there would be no issue here. But ten kilos is excessive”. He then asked: “Do you want to lose your job?” To which she coolly replied: “Do you want to be denied boarding. Maintain than tone and you will not be flying with us again”.
That shut him up. The woman now told him: “You have a two baggage allowance. I see that you have a carry on duffel and a laptop case. Transfer the ten kilos to the carry-on duffel, check it through and the problem is solved”. The man got angry again. “There are things in the duffel I need on board!”. To which the woman calmly said: “Then transfer them to your laptop case”.
The angry man knew he was snookered. He transferred the ten kilos to the duffel. He checked in the two bags. He grabbed his boarding cards. He stormed off.
I approached the desk. I asked the woman: “Having a good day?” She shook her head. She whispered to me: “Why do I do this job?”
