How many more years do you think you'll have to work before you can safely retire and live on your savings for the rest of your life?

It’s not practical to retire and just live off your savings. What if something happens along the way or you’ll live longer than you expected?

You need to plan your retirement carefully.

I was very lucky. I retired when I was 58. Am 70 now. I worked hard and had some lucky breaks in later life.
I remember when I was 17 and just starting work that someone said start now in you plan to retire which strangely I did. I set myself the target of 59!
The other piece of advice was to start saving as early as possible. For some reason I took this onboard and for the next 31 years saved 2% minimum of my salary every week / month. (I was earning £2.59 a week then)
At times I had 3 jobs to keep my family.

No regrets.

Just remember it's about quality, not quantity. Think of the richness of life, whether seeing the trees change colour, grandchildren around you, peace, All of these things are part of the amazing world we live in. But, love, above all, will enrich your time here.

I am retired. I worked for forty years and sold off my businesses at 60. I am not smug about it: I grafted hard for almost half a century, and took the lucky breaks as they came. Other people do not get the breaks, and I help wherever and whenever I can.
