How I met my husband
Alright, I thought I had posted this on SW after having been on EP, but hadn鈥檛. So it needs to be posted. I met my husband shortly after having been dumped and divorced from my first husband. The jerk came to the USA first, then brought me here only to have him ditch me for a younger woman, namely my niece. I was left broke and miserable from physical and mental abuse and had a mess of immigration issues that were going to send me back to Ireland. One evening some friends took me out to a bar that was known to be frequented by disgruntled, middle aged divorced women. I had a few drinks with friends when I was approached by my future husband. He asked if he could buy me a drink, sit and chat. I said no, but changed my mind and agreed. Being younger than me I was expecting immature talk but got the exact opposite. He acted smart and sensible, we had good conversation, and as the evening wound down he asked me out on a date. I said no. I must have slipped up and told him where I worked cause I all of a sudden, just a few days later, started getting flowers sent to my job with cards asking me out. WTF! He would not give up! Very persistent to say the least. With my friends pushing me, I agreed to a date. Out to dinner and a movie. Conversation revealed he was 17 years younger than me, but he didn鈥檛 act or talk immature. Well, I explained my whole life and my situation to him and that marriage was not in my future or on my mind again. He said fine, but asked me out again. One date turned into two and we seen more and more of each other very quickly. Then he used every legal and political connection he had to get my immigration status on it鈥檚 way to being straightened out. Then I lost my job. No problem, he started paying my rent and helped me find a better job. We got to the point that we were seeing each other almost every day. Finally, after about ten months of dating, we went to NYC just before Christmas. We went out to lunch, followed by a carriage ride thru Central Park. We went to Rockefeller Center to see the tree. He got out his camera to take a photo of me with the tree behind me. Getting ready to take the photo he said that I did not look right, something is missing. As I looked myself over to see what is wrong, he walked back over to me. He just stood there as I was dumbfounded as to what was wrong. Then he got down on his knee, pulled a ring out of his pocket and asked me to marry him. I my mind was racing, thinking about my crummy first marriage and how I told him no more marriage for me. My mind said no, my heart said yes. I hesitated, but said yes. He slid that ring on my finger and I started to cry. It was a huge diamond. We stayed in the city for the weekend and started making our wedding plans soon after. Incredibly, I still at this point knew much about my future husband. Did not know about his work, his past or anything. The pieces came together by accident when one day I took a piece of jewelry to get repaired. The jeweler instantly looked at my engagement ring, had little interest in what I needed repaired, and said that someone must have thought an awful lot of me to give such a ring.??. I asked him what he meant. What did I know. He said it was white gold, platinum and a diamond to kill for. He said it was at least $40,000. I was shocked, to say the least and that evening I managed to find out what my husband did for work. I was scared it was drugs or something illegal. Nope, self employed and extremely successful. After the military he literally worked two full time jobs, smartly invested his money and started his own businesses and continues it to this day. Only now I am his full business partner and wife. And he always said that he knew from the fist day we met that I was gonna be his wife and that I had no choice in the matter. He also told me to fasten my seatbelt and hold on tight cause it is gonna be a wild ride! 鈽橈笍
