To all the Christians out there:

Is your faith real or artificial? This comes to mind from knowing a young relative of mine who was stricken with cancer. He is married has a beautiful wife and 3 small children. So sad to see him having to go through this. He and his wife put up rather breezy messages on face book as they were sure the Lord would see them through it relatively unscathed. As months went on the cancer was not being defeated. The doctors decided best course of action was a bone marrow transplant. A sister of the man was a perfect match and the transplant took place. The cancer was pushed back but something was causing him to lose his sight. Months went by and he became totally blind. He is so grateful for his loving wife and kids and Dad and friends and ..... He is not sure he has faith anymore. He still goes to church and he has all kinds of support from the people there but his plastic glib faith of 2 years ago is gone. His strength is not just a song away. His health is not just a "praise the Lord" away. He has had to dig much much deeper and in so doing has found genuine faith. The kind of faith only God can instill. "Not of ourselves lest any man boast. It is a gift of God".

God gives and he takes, blessed be the name of The Lord. God knows how to strengthen our faith. Most of my spiritual growth happened when I was sick, poor, and abandoned.
