vegans and vaccines

apparently vegans are now a 'protected species' and are exempt from getting vaccines, cause the vaccines were tested on animals....
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
They tested it on cabbage but the results were Inconclusive
meJess · F
@FreeSpirit1 100% of vaccinated cabbages are immune to COVID
carpediem · 61-69, M
@FreeSpirit1 Sounds like sauerkraut to me....
AbbySvenz · F
God protected them, not the vaccine.

Lettuce pray🙏
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
If being tested on animals bother them so much what about flu vaccines that have egg in them? And what about HEK cells from aborted fetuses in those vaccines?
BitterSweetPotato · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti @CestManan There are actually types of flu vaccines approved for use that do not contain eggs. But really, that's not even the point. It seems to me that any time the subject of veganism is brought up, people ignore the big and very obvious problems of the meat and dairy industry and start talking about worms that die in the soil and how a type of vaccine contains eggs. Are you trying to tell us that because some vaccines contain eggs and some worms happen to die in the soil, it is okay to slaughter animals and steal milk from baby cows? Because I don't see how the two are connected. Vegans live on a plant based diet in an attempt to protect animals, reduce their carbon footprint, and protect their own health. It was never claimed to be a perfect system that will solve every problem in the world and will protect every single kind and every living creature, but at least we are trying. Just because ((inevitably)) animals are exploited one way or another in the process, just like humans are ALSO((inevitably)) exploited one way or another in process of producing the products that we consume, it doesn't change anything about the reasons why some people have chosen to go vegan despite the fact that they LOVED the taste of meat and cheese. I guess some people just look at the bigger picture, and value life and the environment above their taste. I hardly ever argue veganism whether online or in real life, but I find it funny how people focus the light on the exceptions and ignore the obvious clear issues.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@BitterSweetPotato I was born on a farm and have no qualms about consuming animal products. So lecture elsewhere.
BitterSweetPotato · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti I am not lecturing anyone. Everyone has the right to choose what they put in their body, and it doesn't make people bad. I was just responding to your comment.
meJess · F
Because they have enough health problems without vaccine worries.
meJess · F
@BitterSweetPotato I thought I just gave 2 specific issues, severe weight loss perhaps I should have said. You can read the health problems resulting from a pure vegan diet in The Lancet and other medical journals
BitterSweetPotato · 31-35, F
@meJess Can you show me the stats that show that vegans suffer from [c=800000]severe[/c] weight loss? Because I have been carrying a little extra weight (than my usual/avg weight) and nope, I didn't even lose that extra weight after going vegan, or following a "pure vegan diet" as you are putting it. Going vegan DOES ((potentially - not guaranteed)) help people lose weight because we leave out of our diet the unhealthy fat, but if you are eating the required calories, I wonder why would you be severely underweight.

As for failing to maintain a "balanced diet" I wonder why you claim that, given that there are ABSOLUTELY no nutritional values that animal products provide and plants can't. The only difference is that we get the same nutritional values but less the hormones, saturated fat and bad cholesterol. I wonder if those three elements are the ones that help with "balancing" the diet and that we are therefore greatly missing out!
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@BitterSweetPotato Sigh. Someone is touting the myth of bad cholesterol again. I mean it's not a myth but there's A LOT of half truths there that aren't fully truths.

Piper · 61-69, F
That isn't quite what I've read, about the possibility that "ethical veganism" might exempt some from vaccine mandates an employer might impose.
@Piper this is what I read. It also goes into the unprovable difference between vegan and ethical vegan.

Piper · 61-69, F
@maturedragon There are those who choose a vegan diet, for reasons related mainly to their own health. Then there are those who wish to do the least harm in their choices as a consumer.
From what I've seen and experienced for a very long time, many people don't think there is anything "normal" about vegans or even vegetarians.
Piper · 61-69, F
@SooperSarah That is one of the two articles I read too, on this subject.
I have said it before and I'll say it again. The only thing completely vegan is death. Because I'm sure even the most extreme vegan is still using plastic or has electricity or a car. All of which use petroleum products. You know dead plants and dinosaurs. You can not actually remove yourself from the circle of life. All you can do is try to minimize harm and take care of as many living creatures as you can.
TexChik · F
That makes no sense.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
I looked it up, it's true I didn't even know that lol.

This is super weird, tbh
maturedragon · 26-30, M
@adorbz yep it is
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
It’s a religious exemption
maturedragon · 26-30, M
@GJOFJ3 well I guess you could call veganism a religion for some of them I guess?
