Friends/Mad About You Fan Theory
Phoebe and her sister, Ursula are twins. But, is that the whole story? Ursula first appeared on Mad About You as a waitress at Riff's. Not even a different character named Ursula, and played by Lisa Kudrow. This is the same Ursula, the same shared universe, confirmed when Jaimie and Fran show up in Central Perk on Friends and confuse Phoebe for Ursula.
Now, even earlier than Ursula appearing on Mad About You, there is a flashback episode to when Paul and Jaimie met. Before they do, Paul's friend sets him up with a blind date named Karen, also played by Lisa Kudrow. Darker hair, but most of the same characteristics as Phoebe and Ursula.
I believe that Phoebe and Ursula were not twins, but two of a set of rare identical triplets. Their birth mother decided to put Karen up for adoption, and give Phoebe and Ursula to her friend to raise. I don't think Phoebe and Ursula are even aware of Karen's existence.
A slight clue that this could be true is that Phoebe gave birth to triplets herself. I know, she was on IVF drugs, which make the possibility of multiple births more likely, but story-telling wise it fits.
