Don't you think that they can end your current life and make you penniless/lifeless?
Where are you going to get a girl when you don't have money and what they want from you mostly is the money you can give them?

I see that you have been going after money, and with this virus, benefit chain of course shifts with the change of the thinking and behavior of the working class. The stocks you have been investing in were surely going to suffer a loss, and that's just what they are for, the share of interests and risks.

They are not stupid, because it's the basic function of the system they built and they have to do so to maintain it. It's their rational thinking and behavior for making you think that they are being child-like since you(most of the world) have been looking to them, but they don't need to take the responsibility for being a child. And of course part of the effect has been from the media/untrue knowledge which has an important role in their lives, the same to you, I guess.
All in all, what you might mean is, your life has not been good recently and you don't want american to lead your life but they still are and you can do nothing about it.
