I lost a dear friend to cancer not quite a year ago. She was sick with it for a number of years, finally moving from Chicago, Illinois to Dubuque, Iowa, to reside with the Sisters of Charity. She donated her car to them and I spoke to her exactly twice. She confessed to being homesick and wished she lived on the same street that I had resided on. She went into hospice care and died sometime between late January-early February. I discovered it later when my sister-in-law asked a mutual neighbor who had been able to see her how she was. He was the one who told us.
