Why? (Reposted from 4 Hours Ago)

Okay, let's keep this civil. I want to know why owning a semiautomatic, military style firearm, with quick change magazines exceeding let's say 8 rounds, is so important to you. Why? What do you use it for that you could not otherwise do with something like a Henry Long Ranger.223 Remington, or let's say a Model 48 9mm S&W Revolver?

I have other questions concerning the whole firearms issue, but let's start with this. I will not be deflected, if you don't wish to discuss this specific question, please move on.

Before you launch into a tirade, know that I started shooting at around the age of 10, am a combat veteran, a retired Mastersergeant, own and always have owned, at least one firearm, and support our 2nd Amendment. I sincerely want to know your reasoning.

I own a Glock 17 9mm 15 rounds. In case I ever need to use it for defense I'm not stopping to reload, only when the gun is empty or when the threat is no longer. I store the magazine next to it and never inside it. I have kids. I don't own a revolver for this same reason. They aren't safe if God forbid my kids ever got a hold of it. Any questions?

@abe182 Abe, unrelated to the reloading issue, why do you feel you need a gun for defense of your home? A lot of home invasions in your area?

I’ll hang up and listen.

@luckranger71 because I had someone bang on the front door in the middle of the night, probably on drugs. But what if that door didn't hold? I'm not at all confident that I could handle the situation without a weapon. Nor why would I put myself and my family in that situation?

@abe182 Thanks for the answer.

@Greenbare I am not, if you read my question, addressing the ownership of all firearms. I was quite specific. No conversation can be had unless one stays on topic. That is the problem we face now.

@Greenbare Your interpretation. If that is the point you wish to make, start your own post. You are not answering the question asked.

First let me say thank you Mastersergeant. Second I have no need for assault rifles

First , politics aside , I would like to thank you for your service Mastersergeant!

First the mag capacity . Why not have large cap mags? It’s a lot more fun to shoot my ARs, M4s, MP5, UMP 45, and G36c with more rounds in a mag . More fun at the range, more fun at the ranch controlling hogs. For self defense , facing multiple attackers , as with a home invasion ... more rounds in a single mag will definitely deter the bad guys.

With liberals , if you give an inch they’ll try to take a mile ... so it's just prudent to just say no when it come to the 2A.

@TexChik Thank you, I appreciate the "politics aside" answer. Although I see you couldn't quite get there 😉. I get that it is hard to say "Those with opposing views" instead of lumping half the nation together by saying "With liberals". Liberals do it too.

If I understand your answers correctly, you are saying:

1. Larger magazines means more fun when shooting.
2. For self-defense against home-invaders, larger magazines mean you feel you can better deter multiple invaders.
3. Easier to take down hogs and other range pests with larger magazines.

My intent in posting this question was not to pass or make judgements, it was simply to try and understand the views of people who are in favor of so called assault-type, semiautomatic weapons with large capacity magazines that are easily swapped when empty. You just helped me, so again, thanks!

@frequentlyme as you know , what I Said about liberals with regards to the 2A is quite correct and validates the reasons as to not let them knit pick , but allow the 2A’s “ shall not be infringed “ clause to do its work as intended.
I’ve noticed that if one even asks about the prospect of controls on how easy it is to buy a gun, they’re immediately attacked with accusations of wanting to ban all guns. Many gun owners support gun control because they respect how much responsibility gun ownership entails and realize that not everyone should be armed.

Every gun argument used by the right to protect gun owners is the same used by the left to keep abortion.

Is there some legit reasons to it? Maybe but most people are 100% onboard with one... and 100% against the other.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Kevin19 Off topic. This specific subject is to difficult to talk about when bringing in other issues.
Kevin19 · 22-25, M
@frequentlyme it's not off topic when the current topic of conversation is "how can we use gun control to save kids lives"

In the uk for processing such a firearm and rounds would end you in jail😊
I have no need for a gun

@Stereoguy Actually, if I get no rational responses, that in of itself, is an answer.

@Stereoguy Which tells me something. This is to be a civil discussion. Those who cannot be civil will have their comments deleted.

The amount of rounds is irrelevant to anyone wanting to shoot, ever hear of reloading?
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@strongbow I am not suggesting you conform to my ideas. I am asking why, then trying to discuss those answers.
strongbow · 46-50, M
@frequentlyme And i told you why
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@strongbow You did, and I appreciate the response. It was not though an answer to the question I asked about specific types of firearms, or if it was, I misunderstood your response.
