It a good theory and have a valid background but no one can say for sure for the time being. We don't even know enough about back holes. I think it'd take many years to get somewhere close to answer.

Tunnels, not exactly, but points in space that overlap or are pulled unnaturally close by gravitational anomalies and would allow the travel of vast distances in a fraction of the time, yes. Which is slightly different than the true theory of a wormhole but it's similar enough to pass.

I am undecided on that because I am not an astrophysicist like Steven Hawking and the mathematical skills needed to understand such things is beyond me.

For all I know back holes may be one end of a wormhole. Maybe the Big Bang that produced everything in this universe was a wormhole releasing stuff that somehow travelled here from another universe.

If we can imagine something, there's a good chance the mathematics that allows that, also allows the thing we're imagining.
