I have never been to Germany, but I have had friends who lived there and drove on the Autobahn. They said there is protocol in addition to the "rules of the road." When a faster car comes up behind and they flash their headlights, you get out of the way, and everyone respects that. (Just one example.)

Leaving the "Mug & Anchor" pub in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia and going home to my apt. in Mader's Cove. the road winds something like this and the deer are active about the same time I leave the pub.
I often had to close one eye to quit seeing double.

BTW I quit doing that...but it wasn't intentional in the first place.
