I have a question about flying. My job(s) and vacations over many years had me flying, a lot.

Question, ever hear “Is there a doctor onboard?” announcement?

I’ve heard it twice.

One they made the call. I heard a guy say, “l’m an OB/GYN.” The flight attendant’s back was to me. Then I heard him say, “Yes, really am.” “Yes, I am fluent in French, where is she?” That lady came by, they were helping her walk forward. Came back through. I heard the doc sit back down and say to his seat mate it was false labor and she was all right.

One time I was upgraded to first class and this guy dropped like a sack of potatoes in the aisle by my seat. There were 2 ER doctors on board. Long story short is they gave him orange juice and he snapped out of it. I gave up my seat for the doctor and patient. The old lady next to me would not. They moved grandma to another first class seat and that guy and me took the seats in the back. The doctor was the only one who said thanks. The aircrew didn’t say shit to me.

Question came up because someone told me that never happens.

How about you guys?

Once on a flight from Boston to Heathrow. We were still on the ground at Boston just pushed back. Guy over the aisle from me slumped over. Me and a woman hit the alarm. They called a doctor. Woman came forward, we were in business. He'd had a stroke they got paramedics and took him off.

It happened once with me, and no doctor responded. When we landed, they kept us on board until the EMTs evacuated the patient. He was alive. They suspected a heart attack.

I was at a high school football game years ago when they asked for a doctor to report to the field. I was sitting near a chiropractor, the only doctor there. He went down and came back later to report that one of the players had been stabbed on the field in a pile. Nothing serious.

I was at an event when a doctor was asked for and a local pediatrician was sitting close to me and he didn’t move.
I've heard that a few times. It certainly does happen.

It happens but hasn’t happened with me
I think their never was them pretending that their experience was the definitive one.

You obviously know it does happen, so why ask? 🤷‍♂

@RedBaron Sometimes you say it best when you say nothing at all.
