you should set up your sat nav to beep when the speed limit changes
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@itsoeasy I don't have that but sound good.
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@REMsleep you can buy one from 'garmin' secondhand on ebay
deadgerbil · 22-25, F
I love that Google maps now shows me whatever the speed limit is, particularly useful with those pesky speed cameras.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@deadgerbil Yes I normally use it alot but every now and again I don't need the map and I didn't think about turning it on like today.
Also its incorrect or slow to update sometimes in these small areas.
@deadgerbil They're not always correct, at least in my experience
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
Next time they pull you over just tell them they’re boring and you don’t have time for the bullshit, then floor it and take off.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@BackyardShaman I like your style but Id like to see you do it first

I mean 48 in a 30 mph is almost 20 over. I do agree speedtraps are bullshit though
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@DDonde But literally 2 miles earlier with a huge flashing sign it said 55 so I slowed to 40 something for good measure. I had no idea that I was speeding. Its a freakin highway.
DDonde · 31-35, M
@REMsleep 30 is really slow for a highway yeah
Viper · M
That's why I like Waze app

It tells you if there is a speeding cam or red light cam, or if someone reported police being around...

Of course, the cop can still hide if no one has reported it...

Also, I hate that how it tells you about regular cars in the side of the road, because there are so many and it doesn't usually effect anything. Someone just stopped.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Can you drive 55?
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
My favorite is the county that not only had speed traps on the highway, but took credit and debit cards on site in case there was any doubt that it was a revenue stream for them.
kentex35 · 100+, M
I got one for doing 68 in a 45. I knew where it was at and I was raising my foot when I saw the cop get sideways Ina gravel parking lot. I hadn't gotten to the 45mph sign. It was labor day weekend so cousin Ernest, he look like an 75 year old. It was his turn while the real deputy went swimming. Then he spelled my name wrong and there were about 12 to 15 cars following me all with their lights not yet flashing. They thought I arm robbed a store in San Antonio. The one that gave me the ticket finally got there and he jumps out pointing that's him that's him!!!! Luckily I got a deputy with a GED that could copy but since it was the holiday they couldn't get into the computer down in Austin for an hour and a half there I was surrounded by deputies chewing on a weed waiting to blast me to kingdom come.
I was imagining the coroner report
Subject did from 162 built around, 50 of which entered through the soles of his feet. Lol
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@kentex35 That sounds terrible I got this ticket yesterday in Texas also but Louisiana is the worst about speed traps.
I can't believe what happened to you.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Do you drive a red car?
ExtremeNext · 31-35
Don't speed and you won't get a ticket DUH
Offer sex to the cop so they won't write you a ticket.
Justforfun65 · 56-60, M
You are like Sammy Hagar you can’t drive 55 lol
Lilnonames · F
Speed traps yeah I've never got a speeding ticket as I out ran many lol
beckyromero · 36-40, F
Speedlimit postings should be easily noticeable perhaps by flashing light
That's a good idea.
What is the commondenominator?
iamnikki · 31-35, F
what highway has the speed limit as 30? Also, maybe try using your gps more. I've noticed that it tells you the speed limit . Sometimes it also alerts "there is a speed trap ahead".
@iamnikki probably somewhere in Africa or Asia lol
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
Tell the officer you were being patriotic and exercising your first amendment right to protest the speed limit by exceeding it 😋
Those small towns always get you. And yes, they don't give you very much warning with the signs. I think they especially prey on out of towners.

We got pulled over in one even though we were in the process of slowing down. It was the middle of the night. We were traveling with our infant son. His bright lights woke him up and he started screaming/crying. You'd think the cop would have some sympathy and let us off with a warning, but no, he proceeded to take his sweet time writing the ticket out.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@midnightrose If it was fair I wouldn't mind but yes its all a game. They do prey on those unfamiliar with the road. The signs are easily missed unless you glue your eye to the side of the road and I also have been given a ticket as I was slowing down but they wait just past the sign.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@midnightrose In Europe there are standards that regulate the placing of speed limit signs and reminders and at least in the UK the fines go to the Treasury not to the local authority I think. It's very rare for me to be able to honestly say that I don't know what the speed limit is and my car almost always recognizes them anyway.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@ninalanyon Dorset Police has erected roadside warning signs, saying "No Excuse!" - for breaking speed-limits and the laws on driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

They are right: there isn't an excuse.

The fines do go to the Treasury but it seems County Councils still have to foot the bill for maintaining fixed speed-cameras, and some at least simply turned them off. Though as a motorist you would not know if a camera is working or not.... unless you trigger it.

A sat-nav will show the limits - and may warn of installed (not mobile) speed-cameras - but that's only an y help if you keep it up-to-date and of course, not everyone has such a system, or switches it on for every journey.

(I do not need use the "sat-nag" as a friend calls it, on most of my journeys but still sometimes turn it on even then just to keep its internal battery charged.)
nedkelly · 61-69, M
In Australia you would be classified as a habitual offender and given a 5year ban from driving
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@nedkelly I don't know if its true but I have read that in other countries its much easier to know when the speed of the highway changes. I saw a Youtube video on this and I was amazed and how the signs were easier to notice.

There is a stretch of highway that I drive in which during the course of about 15 miles the speed goes from 70 to 55 to 30 to 70 to 45 to 60 to 70. Same straight highway. No changes in the road at all. If you look at your radio or just look closely at another driver and you miss the small black and white signs on the road you will easily be in violation. Cops wait in hidden places behind many of these sign changes.
chrisCA · M
@nedkelly In Canada, it would probably be impossible to get insurance with that record.
senghenydd · M
Usually in the UK there is a fine plus minus three points off your licence lose twelve points your licence is gone for twelve months.
senghenydd · M
@REMsleep I'm ok on the roads I know but get caught out on strange roads, as far as I know I haven't any points de-ducted at the moment, our maximum speed limit is 70 MPH.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@senghenydd Our Max is 80 in my state but we have a lot of more distance to cover and our highways are just huge.
Yeah I am the same way in unfamiliar areas but since I drive for work across the country so often I'm always in an unfamiliar area.
senghenydd · M
@REMsleep Our Satellite Navigators usually inform us where there's a safety camera {speed trap} sometimes their not up to date I would hate to lose my licence.
Elanor · F
30 on a Highway ?!

That speed is usually for built up residential areas here

I gotta take corners doing over 50mph on our highways/dual carriageways 😎
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@Elanor Well the highway passes thru a small town so thats why for about 5 miles its reduced but I thought it was 45 not 30.
Elanor · F
Ah gotcha, that’s a pretty sneaky move from the police - sounds like they are bored and got nothing better to do like dealing with an actual crime 🤦🏻‍♀️ @REMsleep
I travel 80 miles or more a day, i was 17 last time i got a speeding ticket. & you get better gas mileage obeying the speed limits generally.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Stop speeding. Problem solved. 🙂
doong · 56-60, M
That's why defund the police deserves 2nd thought 😁
pdockal · 56-60, M
I commute and drive about 25000 a year
I use waze (gps on phone) which tells you the speed limit as you navigate
senghenydd · M
@pdockal I have a Garmin Sat-Nav I live in the UK even though it's a fairly new Sat Nav the speed limits are not up to date on my Sat Nav, it's sometimes difficult to stay within the law and the speed limit on un-known roads.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@senghenydd
When i used my GPS i checked for updates allot
Now i is waze (on my phone) & it's pretty accurate
