Damn. It's a day you always know is going to come, but you never really feel prepared for it. Like how do you even say goodbye to a friend like that?
The main thing we can take comfort in is knowing we tried to give them the best life we could. Nobody lives forever, but as long as the time we shared was meaningful and full of love, we can rest easier knowing they had a good time while it lasted.

@TinyViolins we had an appointment for the morning to have her put down but she decided to come sleep on my lap one last time. she just never woke up. I think she felt loved and safe and I hope it was enough.

@SwampFlower my one dog was dejected after my Chihuahua died in July. He's back to normal now. It sucks that we can't communicate with them to tell them what's going on
